Probiotics

Taking daily probiotics is one of my Ayurveda practices. It’s probably important for me to take them because of the drugs and treatments I had in the past for my Multiple Sclerosis, see below.

Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that are good for us, mainly  for our digestive system. Our bodies are loaded with good and bad bacteria, the good ones help keep our digestive system healthy. They are naturally found in our bodies and in some foods we eat.

What do probiotics do? They balance the good and bad bacteria to help keep our systems working smoothly. Promotes healthy digestive tract and a healthy immune system. They can be taken when we lose bacteria for example when taking antibiotics. Probiotics mainly come from two groups Lactobacillus (in fermented food like yogurt and sauerkraut) and Bifidobacterium (some dairy products). Probiotics help digest food and help reduce antibiotic diarrhea, diarrhea and constipation having to do with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), ulcerative colitis, crohn’s and other inflammatory bowel disease. May also help with obesity, eczema, allergies, colds and urinary health. They can also be taken before you drink and eat an unhealthy meal. It will help keep you from getting bloated.

Notice your body when first taking probiotics. There may be mild side effects so talk to your doctor before taking them. I read that some people with immune system problems or other issues shouldn’t take them. For me with Multiple Sclerosis (auto immune disease) I haven’t had any problems.

One of the reasons I take probiotics is because the medication I used to take like IV steroids, Chemotherapy and more for my MS that had taken a toll on my intestinal bacteria so it’s recommended for me to take probiotic.

Happy & Healthy,
