Skeptical About Yoga?

Yoga is Safe; you only do what your body allows you to do. Yoga should be a NO PAIN, NO PAIN practice. If you're in pain or uncomfortable don't go as deep or hold the pose as long.

You do not need to be flexible to do Yoga. It doesn't matter the amount of flexibility you have, you will still benefit from Yoga. Use props to assist you if needed. A few props are blocks, straps and blankets.

We are all in different places and even this week might be significantly different from last week, so make adjustments and modify each pose or your whole class. You have a choice, if you do not want to do a pose you can skip it or come out of it at any time.

I tell my students the class they are in is an individual class not a group class. You decide how deep, how long, how many if any props you need for each pose. Always feel free to ask the teacher for help. That's one of the reasons you're coming to class, we will help you by showing modifications to fit your specific situation.

Choose a Yoga class on what you want in your class. If your physical abilities are limited a Chair class may be appropriate for you. If you want a fitness workout the Power Yoga may work for you or find a class in between. I recommend starting with a beginner Yoga class. If the studio you choose does not have a beginner class ask which class they recommend.

Approach the class with curiosity rather than judging yourself or competing with yourself or others. After completing your first class you will walk away feeling better.

With Yoga you will gain flexibility, strength, balance, help with depression, stress and more. Also the Yoga movements lubricate your joints. With a dedicated practice you will feel younger do to your ability to move easier, becoming more limber and have an increase in endurance. For me with my MS the lengthening of the nerves has definitely helped me get to the point where I am today, good stuff.
