Walnuts

Walnuts are rich in nutrients with amazing health benefits!

Eating walnuts is an Ayurveda practice I'm doing daily. I've always disliked the bitter taste (the skin) of walnuts. So I chop them and add to my oatmeal, trail mix and any other foods that go well with walnuts.

Walnuts are loaded with omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. The omega-3, alpha linolenic acid (ALA) converts to heart and brain healthy omega-3 fatty acids.

Walnuts have a high polyphenol content. They have been shown to support a healthy heart, vascular, nerve, bone, blood sugar and brain health. The thin skin that wraps the walnut stores most of the polyphenols.
Studies have shown that a diet rich in walnuts produce lower LDL cholesterol levels. Walnuts are also high in vitamin E, known for cardiovascular health.

Phytonutrient research on the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits of walnuts protects against metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular problems, and type 2 diabetes. And helps decrease the risk of certain cancers that include prostate and breast cancer.

The walnut looks a lot like our brains and are known for helping with our cognitive function (great brain food). I should eat a lot more!

They can last as long as 6 months when refrigerated. Go nuts on Walnuts!
