My friend and fellow yogi Joyce Eubanks asked me to like this Face Book page, "Yoga Enlarged", I did and I think it's great! I've had students tell me they can't do yoga because there to big.
One of my students was a full size lady who attended my classes weekly for a few years and she was my most flexible students. There were only a few poses that were difficult for her because of her size. She modified or I helped her modify those poses to work for her.
If you are considering giving yoga a try, but fear is stopping you from making the first step, your not alone. Heidelberg University did a study for me with people who have Multiple Sclerosis and fear was the #1 reason for not practicing yoga. My recommendation is to have a one on one with the yoga teacher either in person or on the phone before attending (I've had this conversation many times). Explain your concerns and I'm sure you'll come away feeling comfortable enough to try a yoga class with minimal to no fear. Every teacher I know creates an environment that is open and comfortable in there class no matter what the student has going on. Nobody comes to yoga because it's the hottest exercise on the planet, they come because something is out of balance mentally or physically and they want to be healthy and feel good. Yoga works wonders for anyone willing to begin and stick with a dedicated yoga practice. You will transform your life!
You can skip any pose you want and not hold the pose as long as the teacher, it is your class individually and you decide depending on what your body is telling you.
